It rained heavily all morning, but around lunch time it finally stopped. After the last group finished lunch, one of the teachers asked me to help get the children dressed. I'm still shocked that children go outside when the playground is soaked and there's mud everywhere, but this is part of the German kindergarten experience.
There were only 3 of us helping around 40 children get fully dressed in their rain gear so it took quite a while. Half an hour later, I finally stepped outside and began taking pictures of the children playing in a giant puddle next to the sand box. And let me tell you, it was quite a sight!
All I kept thinking was how different this was compared to the American schools I've been in. For example, if it had rained this much, we wouldn't be going outside for a day or two. But in Germany, children must have rain boots, a rain jacket, and rain trousers at school so they can go outside during these rainy/muddy conditions.
It was fascinating watching the children play and explore, and surprisingly only one child fell into the giant puddle. However, I'm glad I kept a safe distance and avoided ruining my new shoes
