There has only been two places that I've called "home" during my 22 years on the planet. I was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina in a small town called Cherokee. I attended Cherokee Central Schools from kindergarten until I graduated in May of 2010. Then it was onto the next chapter of my life: college.
I was accepted into my dream school and started my college career early at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in June of 2010 in the Summer Bridge Program. For the past four years, Chapel Hill has been my home and place for me to pursue my goal of becoming a teacher in early childhood education.
After being accepted into UNC's School of Education, we were told about the option to study abroad the last month of senior year while completing teaching requirements. I thought this was an amazing opportunity that I couldn't pass up!

For Spring 2014, the study abroad options included Germany and Norway so I chose Germany. I hope to become a kindergarten teacher after graduation so I wanted to visit the country where the word 'kindergarten' was established. I'm looking forward to learning about another culture and language that is different than my own Native American/American culture. The language barrier is definitely going to pose some challenges while I'm abroad because my knowledge of the German language is very limited. The link below shows what German words I actually know.
